A good, basic motel, offering large pleasant rooms with bay windows, located on the Marina s Motel Row. It isn t beautiful, but it s functional and reliable. All rooms are no smoking, and parking is complimentary. A minimum stay may apply on some weekends. d 1901 Lombard St

Built for San Francisco s archbishop in 1904, this converted wonder is a slice of city history, and has the Alamo Square views that appear on postcards. Free breakfast and evening wine and cheese make it a real treat. Be aware, however, that the neighborhood is rundown. d 1000 Fulton St
